How to do Thresholds
I put this tutorial in the POE ning group... I placed it here for you all to read and enjoy too!
So I brought up Thresholds the other day on the POE chat forum on ETSY.com. There was some questions on how to do it... so I am going to share how I do and what I do with it. If anyone else does other things with it please share!! I know there is more power with this wonderful application!
Now for a brief disclaimer... I USE GIMP. There. If you use any of the other photo editing software, you can probably still find the Threshold option somewhere... I just will not know where. If you do not use any photo editing software that has thresholds... then go to GIMP.org for a free!! download. Gotta love opensource!
Here we go with the fun part!
Step 1:
Get your image. Look for something simple with not too much detail. I am going to use a strawberry. I already adjusted the Levels and done my work on it (could use some more, but I am not going to worry about that now)

2) In Gimp go to Tools -> Color Tools -> Threshold. You can also go to Colors -> Threshold. But going to Tools is old habit for me.

3) Adjust the sliders till you get the image you want.
a) if you move the Right slider to the left, you will get more black in the surrounding areas.
b) If you move the Left slider to the right, you get more black in the detail areas.

The Image after threshold is applied:

4) Do finishing touches!
I usually erase the areas I do not want in my final image. You can add color and text and other many fun things!

Have a great day and I look forward to your other thoughts about thresholds!
